Here is a Chinese ginger jar made in the traditional Sancai (“three-color”) style, most likely out of the Shiwan kilns in southern China. It’s a centuries-old look that started back in the Tang Dynasty and stayed popular right through the Ming and Qing eras.

  • The Colors: A great blend of green, warm amber, and cream glazes that run together with natural crackling and little kiln quirks.

  • The Details: Instead of delicate brushwork, you get raised, touchable reliefs of plants and birds with lots of rustic personality.

  • The Classic Shape: Nice rounded body, a short neck, and a little domed lid.

They were originally made for pantry staples like ginger, but now they just make fantastic, colorful accent pieces for a shelf or tabletop.
