This beautiful dish is a prime example of Chinese Imari porcelain, a style that emerged during the Qing Dynasty, particularly in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. This type of porcelain was created in China to meet the high demand in Europe for Japanese Imari ware, which had become popular due to its vibrant color palette. Characterized by the use of underglaze blue in combination with overglaze iron-red and gold, Chinese Imari often features intricate floral motifs and scenes, such as the one seen here with blooming chrysanthemums and peonies. While it imitates the Japanese style, Chinese Imari pieces are often distinguished by a finer, thinner body and a brighter, more refined cobalt blue, showcasing the superior technical skill of the Chinese artisans from kilns like Jingdezhen. This dish is a testament to the global nature of the porcelain trade and the Qing Dynasty's ability to adapt and innovate to appeal to Western tastes. Imported from England. Heirloom. Repaired - See pictures.
